ABOUT MY NARRATION WORK

I narrate stories that stir the heart to love, challenge the mind to solve high-stakes riddles, and chart unexpected journeys to inner transformation and spiritual discovery.

My favorite sweet spot is voicing smart, capable women who must overcome self-doubt, painful loss, or an unexpected crisis as they pursue their heart’s desire.  And tales of ordinary people facing extraordinary challenges with courage, moxie, and road-tested faith make my heart sing!

Happily, these narrative arcs often show up in my favorite genres, including:

  • Romance (Historical, Inspirational, Small Town)
  • Cozy Mystery
  • Women’s Fiction
  • Inspirational & Christian Fiction
  • Memoir & Biography
  • Magical Realism & Literary Fiction

My Professional Background

I’ve got over 30 years of professional experience as an actor, director, educator, and dialect coach, including almost a decade as an award-winning professor of Voice and Speech in the BFA Musical Theater program at Boston Conservatory at Berklee.    Fun fact: I’m an Associate Editor-at-Large of the International Dialects of English Archive (IDEA).

This deep bench of experience informs every creative choice I make behind the microphone.

As a collaborator, I value clear communication and thoughtful preparation.   I welcome the opportunity to create and foster long-term partnerships with producers, publishers, and rights holders.

My Narration Style & Dialect Expertise

I am an expressive storyteller — deeply sensitive to the nuances of emotionally truthful character dialogue, with the professional chops to analyze, research, and embody the diverse styles of spoken language that authors weave into their work

Dialects and accents in my active repertoire include Received Pronunciation, variants of American Southern, Irish and Northern Irish, Scottish, French, German, Russian, “Standard Speech,” and Cockney.

However, for recent books I’ve also had the privilege of learning Mississippi Delta Cajun, Hawaiian Pidgin and Haitian Creole…I am always excited to expand my repertoire!

Studio & Production

I record in a StudioBricks isolation booth, use broadcast-quality equipment, and deliver audio that meets publisher and ACX specifications.  Technical details are available upon request.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME

On the trail with one of my pups

In my personal life, I am a Woman Who Runs with the Wolves… I hike in the forest daily with my two German Shepherds.  And yes, Clarissa Pinkola Estés is one of my favorite authors!  I also adore the works of C.S. Lewis, Elizabeth Gilbert, and the poetry of Hafez.

I paint abstracts for the pure joy of color.  I swoon at the sight of peonies in bloom.  My favorite magic trick is home-made pie crust.

And whenever possible, I travel the world to expand my psyche, broaden my perspective, and experience different cultures.   I’ve savored ice cream in Soviet Leningrad, hiked solo in the Cinque Terre, stood at dawn between the paws of the Sphinx, performed fusion dance theatre in Kolkata, and ridden a very grumpy camel up Mount Sinai.  Travel continues to deepen my understanding of the voices and stories I bring to life.

ACCENT AND DIALECT DEMOS

Kindly note: Every accent or dialect has myriad possibilities for linguistic expression.  When entrusted with a character that requires an accent, I consult appropriate primary speaker samples to inform and guide my work.

AUTHORS SAY…

“Bryn Austin really makes my stories come alive! Even though I write in a wide variety of genres and have several different character types, I can always count on Bryn to create just the right sound for each of my books. She has an engaging and active narration style and her ability to use a wide range of accents and voices makes for a delightful audio production. My readers love her!”

— Stephenia H. McGee

“Bryn Austin and I have collaborated on two novels. She did such an extraordinarily fine job on the first one, A Small Flirtation, that I could think of no one but Bryn to narrate and produce, Simon’s Story. She is intuitive, asks all the right questions, as she prepared to embark on the project. As this was my first experience in this field, she was more than helpful and patient as she explained the process thoroughly. She has a great sense of humor, is light hearted, as well as direct. Our deadlines were met. In one case, even early.  Bravo!”

— Buff Brazy Given

“Bryn’s work as a narrator for my books has been an exceptional experience. Throughout production Bryn is very professional and clear with communication.   She breathes life into my stories and delivers a performance with the authentic emotion that is needed for each character.  I absolutely recommend Bryn to anyone who wants to provide an engaging experience for their reader.”
