AUDIOBOOK NARRATION

Where I punch and roll!

As a narrator, my groove is celebrating and honoring the human experience!

I relish historical romances that stir the heart to love, mysteries that challenge the mind to solve high-stakes riddles, and tales that illuminate the soul’s path toward wholeness and the Divine.  I also excel at lyrical novels, magical realism, and fables.

I’ve got over thirty years of professional experience as an actor, producing artistic director, and dialect coach…including almost a decade as an award-winning professor of Voice and Speech in the BFA Musical Theater program at Boston Conservatory at Berklee.    Fun fact: I’m an Associate Editor-at-Large of the International Dialects of English Archive (IDEA).

My narration style reflects this deep bench of experience:  I am a wild and whimsical storyteller at heart — deeply sensitive to the nuances of character dialogue, with the professional chops to analyze, research, and embody the diverse styles of spoken language that many authors weave into the vibrant tapestry of their work.

Accents and dialects I have a lot of experience with include Received Pronunciation, American Southern, Irish, Scottish, French, German, “Standard Speech,” and Cockney.  However, for recent books I’ve also had the privilege of learning Russian, Hawaiian Pidgin and Haitian Creole…I am always excited to expand my repertoire!

I work in a StudioBricks One XXL isolation booth.  My beloved gear: Mojave 200 microphone, Grace Design m101 pre-amp, Motu M2 interface, and an iMac, all running on a Furman M-8×2 power conditioner.   I record in Logic Pro.  If I’m also editing and mastering, I do that work in ProTools.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME

In my personal life, I am a Woman Who Runs with the Wolves…I hike in the forest daily with my two German Shepherds.  And yes, Clarissa Pinkola Estés is one of my favorite authors!  I also adore the works of C.S. Lewis, Elizabeth Gilbert, and the poetry of Hafez.

I paint for the pure joy of color…I swoon at the sight of peonies in bloom…my favorite magic trick is home-made pie crust.

And….whenever possible, I travel the world to expand my psyche, broaden my perspective, and make new friends.   I’ve had the pleasure of savoring ice cream in Soviet Leningrad, dodging torches at the Kurama fire festival, cycling around the Renaissance walls of Lucca, greeting the dawn from between the paws of the Sphinx, reveling in the sights and smells of Chiang Mai’s night market, performing dance theatre in Kolkata, and riding a very grumpy camel up Mount Sinai.

Kindly note: Every accent or dialect has myriad possibilities for linguistic expression.  When entrusted with a character that requires an accent, I consult appropriate primary speaker samples to inform and guide my work.

AUTHORS SAY…

“Bryn Austin really makes my stories come alive! Even though I write in a wide variety of genres and have several different character types, I can always count on Bryn to create just the right sound for each of my books. She has an engaging and active narration style and her ability to use a wide range of accents and voices makes for a delightful audio production. My readers love her!”

— Stephenia H. McGee

“Bryn Austin and I have collaborated on two novels. She did such an extraordinarily fine job on the first one, A Small Flirtation, that I could think of no one but Bryn to narrate and produce, Simon’s Story. She is intuitive, asks all the right questions, as she prepared to embark on the project. As this was my first experience in this field, she was more than helpful and patient as she explained the process thoroughly. She has a great sense of humor, is light hearted, as well as direct. Our deadlines were met. In one case, even early.  Bravo!”

— Buff Brazy Given

“Bryn’s work as a narrator for my books has been an exceptional experience. Throughout production Bryn is very professional and clear with communication.   She breathes life into my stories and delivers a performance with the authentic emotion that is needed for each character.  I absolutely recommend Bryn to anyone who wants to provide an engaging experience for their reader.”
